Wisdom from the Elders

In life, I’ve learned to be thankful for the wisdom of the elders in my life. Through life experiences I’ve learned that they know what they are talking about.  As I near my 30’s I now understand the life lessons and teachings that the elders handed down to me about survival, love, and integrity.

I remember a while back as I visited a nudist resort during the Summer, there was an older couple that was living and having fun.  They happened to be in the conversation of dating that me and another patron had when I was asked “why are you single.”  I really didn’t want to answer the question, but I did, giving the reason that I’m focusing on me and that I’m patiently waiting.
The older couple, who happened to be a cis man and a trans-woman, chimed in.  They both encouraged me to live a little and that it’s okay to date. The older couple also advised me that patiently waiting is wise instead of jumping for the first thing that you see. They also advised me to take my time and to make sure that the potential mate could value me as a whole and not for what they wanted. They even explained that it takes work to make a relationship work.
Not only did the couple educate us young bucks that were visiting about relationships, but they taught us about respecting our fellowman and loving each other regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, and orientation. They gave us some great nuggets.
I am very grateful for the wisdom of those that have more life experience than me. I do not take it for granted. It has helped and is helping shape and mold me into the courageous, integral, and blessed man I am right now.
